Our annual path survey is now complete and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone involved.

Thank you very much for your contributions to the Marsden Walkers are Welcome Annual Path survey. We have now received information about the state of the paths in all the kilometer squares. The commonest fault was an absence of way marking making the path difficult to follow and vegetation encroaching on the surface.
We are now planning  to organize a series of volunteer sessions when some of these problems can be tackled. The proposed works will be agreed with Andy Gardner, an officer from Kirklees, as appropriate for volunteers to undertake. This will mean the participants will be covered by the Council’s insurance. There is also a possibility that tools will be provided.
Works not appropriate for volunteers such as the erection of way marker posts or footpath signs and the improvement of stiles will be undertaken by the Council’s PROW ranger.  Where paths are obstructed this will be discussed with the councilors on the steering committee and subsequently pursued with Mike Thorpe from Highways.
We will let you know the projected dates for volunteer sessions in the near future. This is likely to be in early spring.
