Our annual path survey is now complete and we would like to express our gratitude to everyone involved.
Thank you very much for your contributions to the Marsden Walkers are
Welcome Annual Path survey. We have now received information about the
state of the paths in all the kilometer squares. The commonest fault
was an absence of way marking making the path difficult to follow and
vegetation encroaching on the surface.
We are now
planning to organize a series of volunteer sessions when some of
these problems can be tackled. The proposed works will be agreed with
Andy Gardner, an officer from Kirklees, as appropriate for volunteers
to undertake. This will mean the participants will be covered by the
Council’s insurance. There is also a possibility that tools will be
Works not appropriate for volunteers such as
the erection of way marker posts or footpath signs and
the improvement of stiles will be undertaken by the Council’s PROW
ranger. Where paths are obstructed this will be discussed with
the councilors on the steering committee and subsequently pursued with
Mike Thorpe from Highways.
We will let you know the projected dates for volunteer sessions in the near future. This is likely to be in early spring.
